In the fall of 2014, we had the privilege to collaborate with the Abbotsford Multicultural Festival (ABBYFest). We committed ourselves to help with the creation of the new logo and the creative concept and collateral for the 2014 marketing campaign.
The New Logo
The graphic solution for the ABBYFest logo was inspired in the official coat of arms as a representative graphic element of the City of Abbotsford. In addition, the map of the word showing the different continents highlighted with vivid colours was used to represent different cultures and ethnic groups to reflect the concept of multiculturalism. And finally, the logo needed to convey happiness, celebration and a festive spirit. The graphic representation of fireworks was the perfect choice.
Faces Without Borders
The theme of the year was Faces Without Borders. The theme required powerful visuals to convey the ideas of people from different cultures, ethnic groups becoming a strong and unified community.
The original concept proposed the creation of professional photographs using local models from each representative ethnic groups, showing face painted flags from different countries. However the technical difficulties of having models and be able to create the ‘perfect’ face painting represented a big challenge. So we decided to experiment with a cool Photoshop technique that enables bi-dimensional graphics to be wrapped around three dimensional objects.
We did some research we were very lucky to find an easy tutorial posted by Photoshop expert Gavin Hoey.
The result, a high quality graphic with a super realistic lighting effect! Thanks Gavin!
We feel very proud to be part of this community and support events that foster the values of multiculturalism, respect and cohesion among the community members. We look forward to continue supporting ABBYFest in the years to come.
